Dr Tim Karbowiak

Dr Karbowiak completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Sydney University in 2008 before going on to study a Bachelor of Medicine at the University of New England graduating in 2013. He completed a Masters Degree in Traumatology in 2017 through the University of Newcastle. He completed his Orthopaedic training in 2024 gaining fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and membership to the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
In 2024 Dr Karbowiak undertook an International Hand Fellowship at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, United Kingdom. He then returned to Australia and undertook a further hand surgery fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne with the Victorian Hand Surgery Associates.
Dr Karbowiak holds public appointments at John Hunter Hospital and The Maitland Hospital and operates out of Newcastle Private Hospital, Lingard Private Hospital and Lake Macquarie Private Hospital. He has an interest in all conditions affecting the hand and wrist, in particular reconstruction of traumatic hand injuries, fracture management, wrist ligament injuries and arthritis of the hand, wrist and thumb. In addition to this, Dr Karbowiak is proficient in the management of common conditions affecting the hand including, carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren's contracture, trigger finger, De Quervain's tenosynovitis and ganglions.
